You guys have no idea how lucky you are to get this review. This review comes to you because of a strange set of happenings. A long line of coincidences.
When my college is on I never leave it mid term and come to home. Never. This time I did.
My brother likes to play First Person Shooters. He hates racing games. He never plays them. He likes hi-fi graphics. When I came home he was playing the old gold, Road Rash, which is a racing game from 1996. This should never have happened. It did.
I do not play video games except for Counterstrike on multiplayer. Especially racing games. I played Road Rash. Never should have happened.
I ordinarily do not check out the music playing in video games. This time I did.
Because the music was cool !!!! And the game is damn hot !!!!
Yes. It was only because of the above mentioned chain of events that I ever heard of this album. There is no way in holy hell that I was ever gonna hear about Swervedriver any other way. And as it happens this album sounds friggin absolutely right !!!
That is why you guys (the fictional audience of this site which at the moment of writing does not exist.) are lucky to get this review. This album btw, cannot be found in India at least so do not even try looking. Get it from torrent. Just as I did.
(RIAA !!! TAKE THAT UP YOUR STINKIN’ ASS !!! MUSIC IS THE COMMON HERITAGE OF ALL MANKIND !!! IT’S MY BIRTHRIGHT !!!! FUCK YOU !!!!! I WILL NOT BUY CD’s THAT ARE PRICED 10 TIMES MORE THAN WHAT THEY SHOULD BE!!)
Now coming down to this lost classic from the early 90’s what type of music shalt you find on this album, in case you take the time out to download the torrent illegally? You shall find, according to the All Music Guide, a shoegazer band at its peak, who…
Fuck that. I’ll tell you what you shall find. You shall find layers of melodic guitars over a steady rhythm section that simply stone you out of your ass and you shall also find some songs like “Last Train to Satansville” and “Duel” which are absolutely off the hook. Those are the album highlights while the rest of the album forms the steady backdrop. The whole album is a nice mix of grunge influences (look at the opener “For Seeking Heat”) plus your soft indie pop/rock influences (check out “MM Abduction which has the indie “whine” plastered all over it, reminds me of Guided By Voices) absolutely dripping with guitar lines that leave vapour trails behind them. And all these would sound great in a car !!! Specially “Last Train To Satansville” !!!!!!!!
Really Nice. Do not worry if you look them up at AMG and find it under “Shoegaze”. That is a bunch of poppy cock.. Swervedriver essentially was a band making nice melodic rock music in the 90’s that consisted of a lot of guitars melting into each other and creating a wall of sound that you could just lie there and listen to on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
Well, ok, if that is what is meant by Shoegaze rock then, fine, Swervedrive is a shoegazer band. Shoegaze rock is rock meant to be heard on a lazy Sunday Afternoon ergo, Swervedrive is a shoegazer band, because it is meant to be heard on a lazy Sunday Afternoon. Q.E.D!!!!! Bands to be heard in the morning are hard rock, kick you in your arse bands, that make you feel good and horny and ready to fuck, AC/DC makes me feel good and horny and ready to fuck, ergo, AC/DC is a hard rock band.
Oh my gawd, AMG, you got something right at last !!!! That’s a first !!!!
Which means I’ll forgive you for categorizing AC/DC under heavy metal. Heavy Metal Bands are meant to be heard in the night at 12’o clock when you are completely drunk off your ass. Completely stoned. Ergo, because AC/DC is meant to be heard in the morning because it makes you feel horny therefore it cannot be heavy metal………..
I wish somebody paid me for this piece of crap. Its getting confusing in here.
We don’t have more Mezcal Head yet, but do check out our ALTERNATIVE ROCK Reviews.
