Yeah, they combined the punk and garage ethics with your metal riffing, and therefore are thrash metal punk. But most importantly, most importantly, they are simply unadulterated no nonsense sweet old rock’n’roll. This is what rock’n’roll started out to be, before it ended up as the many headed monster it is now, full of artistic excesses. Just pure fun, head banging, fist thumping straight up rock’n’roll.
I normally never talk about the individual members of the band, but Motorhead is an exception. Motorhead is many things, but mainly it is all about Lemmy Kilmister, the ultimate larger than life kick your butt rock icon. He was in the space rocker, legendary band Hawkwind, before he was kicked out, which gave him the inspiration to start his own band, where he has been for the past 33 years, just making album after album of almost exactly the same type of stuff, but which, nevertheless is damn fun. He has the genius to do exactly the same thing album after album, but still keep it refreshing and fun. All the songs are about being on the road and up on the stage, whoring around, drinking beers and raising hell, all the song titles are like that, about gambling and wars and living fast. Lemmy plays the bass and err..sings…and I tell you, I do not enjoy anyone’s vocals more than Lemmy’s. Amazing stuff.
